Holidays in the Dolomites

Did you know that the Dolomites originated as a coral reef? These mountains, with a colour that is unique the world over, are now candidates to become a UNESCO natural heritage site.

The rocks in the Dolomites, made from double carbonates of calcium and magnesium, were formed by the movement of these imposing mountains from the warm shallow seas to this area, some 250 million years ago.

Up to an altitude of around 1800 metres, our mountains are home to conifer woods and higher up, to woods of mountain pines. Wonderful woods, crossed by hundreds of kilometres of trails and cycle tracks. Then of course, in winter, these magical mountains offer the possibility to practise all of the winter sports you love best: skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and much, much more.

The Dolomites are also the birthplace of ancient and splendid legends, such as the one about King Laurino, who placed a curse on his Catinaccio mountain – that no man would be able to see its “Rosengarten”, either by day or night. But Laurino forgot the sunset and the dawn... and that is why at these times, the Dolomites become tinged with shades of incredible beauty.
